Join the Anglican Council ™
Based on the canon laws and administrative frameworks of the Worldwide Anglican Church
(WAC), the Anglican Council offers several distinct tiers of membership. These categories
accommodate individual clergy, global jurisdictions, and local parishes while preserving traditional apostolic
order and biblical fidelity.
1. Clergy Memberships (Individual Ranks)
-
Bishop Membership: Open to validly consecrated Bishops, Archbishops, and
Primates who maintain documented lines of Apostolic Succession (Western and/or Eastern lines) recognized
by the WAC House of Bishops. Members participate in the Holy Synod and the global College of
Bishops.
-
Priest (Presbyter) Membership: For ordained priests in good standing who
validly administer the Seven Sacraments and oversee local parishes or specific ministries under the
authority of their regional Ordinary (Bishop).
-
Deacon Membership: For those ordained into the first step of Holy Orders.
This tier includes both transitional deacons preparing for the priesthood and vocational deacons focused
on serving the poor, the homeless, orphans, and marginalized communities.
-
Clergy-in-Formation / Seminarian Membership: A preparatory tier for
candidates under the care of the Membership and Candidate Selection Committee who are currently enrolled
in approved theological tracks or seminary studies.
2. Corporate & Jurisdictional Memberships (Churches)
-
Congregational (Parish) Membership: Designed for individual, local local
churches, parishes, and mission plants. To be credentialed, the congregation must use a recognized
traditional liturgy (such as the Book of Common Prayer), have a functioning local council or vestry, and
actively support the WAC missional mandates.
-
Diocesan / Provincial Membership: A regional designation for an organized
collective group of parishes overseen by a Primate or Ordinary Bishop representing an entire
Ecclesiastical Province (e.g., Brazil, Kenya, India, USA).
3. Special & Ministerial Memberships
-
Chancellery and Legal Membership: Reserved for canonical experts,
ecclesiastical diplomats, and legal officers (such as the Office of the Lord Chancellor) who protect the
governance, asset autonomy, and global legal standing of the communion.
-
Religious Order / Monastic Membership: For independent communities,
sisterhoods, or brotherhoods that operate within the traditional Anglo-Catholic or Orthodox expressions
of the church, focusing on dedicated lives of prayer and service.
-
Lay Minister / Catechist Membership: For confirmed, active lay leaders who
are canonically licensed by their Bishop to assist in pastoral care, lead non-sacramental services,
teach catechism, or manage local church outreach initiatives.
4. Ecumenical & Affiliate Status
-
Societatis (Affiliate Communion) Membership: A fraternal category for
external, independent Christian jurisdictions (including those coming from Methodist, Baptist,
Pentecostal, or independent liturgical traditions) that wish to enter into a formal concordat or
inter-communion agreement with the WAC while maintaining their local administrative identity.
